Berwick Fire Drill & Precautions

(as recommended by Wiltshire Fire Brigade)

A FIRE DRILL MUST BE CARRIED OUT DURING THE FIRST NIGHT OF ARRIVAL TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW TO ACT IN CASE OF FIRE

This should be given high priority, first evening if possible before 9.00pm. Guider-in-charge should ensure that no disturbance is caused by noise to those on other sites. Read the Centers' User Guide and sign when the fire drill has taken place.

Building Alarm Points

There are fire alarm points in the entrance hall, main rooms, kitchen and Pratten building. In the event of a fire the glass should be broken to 'sound alarm'.

Fire Drill

The alarm system can be triggered at the main box for drill, by using the black plastic key found in the key cupboard. Please return the key to the key cupboard once the drill is complete.

Telephone

The telephone is situated in the office. You can dial 999 from here.

An alternative public telephone is in the village on the right-hand side (going into the village from Berwick Center) about 200 yards past Church at Manor Farm entrance.

Lift the receiver, dial 999 and ask for the Fire Brigade

The address is

Wiltshire South Guide Centre
Berwick St James
Nr Salisbury

SP3 4TS
Telephone: 01722 790019

In an Emergency

One Guider should be responsible for calling the Fire Brigade
One Guider should ensure all persons have left the building
One Guider should meet the Fire Brigade with information.
(ie All persons have been accounted for (or not) / The fire is in ...............)

Procedure if there is a fire

  1. Get everyone out of the building safely via nearest exit.
  2. Always call the Fire Brigade (keep the main gate and driveway clear).
  3. If safe deal with the fire using equipment available.
  4. Do what is possible to contain the fire, closing all doors and windows.

Guiders should familiarise themselves with the type and position of fire appliances available.

Should a fire occur in the kitchen there is a 'fire blanket' on the wall which can be pulled out from the bottom to smother flames.

All residents in outbuildings should follow this procedure.

NO SMOKING IN ANY OF THE BUILDINGS
