The Outdoor and Residential Teams provide activities and support to those leaders who wish to push the boundaries for themselves and their units. Each year a variety of trainings are organised by the teams to enable leaders to work towards gaining a qualification so that they can take their units away, either staying in residential accommodation or camping.
The teams also provide activities thorough out the year and these vary from campfires, to night walks, to camps to residentials, to dragonboating, to cooking, to team games. Look out for the fliers which come directly from the teams, the Bustard and via District and Division Commissioners.
Archery sessions can be booked with This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Jo Fitton and Rachel Warnett are also County Archery Instuctors.
Howdy Pardners!
What a time we had at
The Wild, Wild West, WoSoG II event!
Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, YLs/SS, leaders and Trefoil Guild descended upon Foxlease for a fun time.
We were blessed with hot sunny weather for most of the time, only being cooled down by the torrential down pour on Thursday morning, which everyone coped with very well.
A fantastic team of leaders and helpers provided a huge range of activities. These ranged from theme based crafts, the Settler Experience, story telling in the tepee, the On Going Competition, trails and Foxlease activities. Mike and Bob were kept very busy all week, either getting people to play Native American games or line dancing. The BBQ in the walled garden, all cooked by Alan and the final barn dance were the icing on the cake, it was just great. All the costumes were wonderful. The photographs of the Trefoil Guild must be seen! So look out for them! (They should be on display at Berwick from 14th October 2011).
Well done to 3rd Salisbury Guides who won the best camp gate way as judged by Jean Bowers and Barbara Childs. Well done too, to all those who entered their event diaries and to those who won prizes. The diaries will be returned to you after they have been displayed at Berwick for a while.
The Cowboy service team were just brilliant, doing any job which was asked of them and undertaking it with a smile.
The list of those to thank is long and thanks were said at the event but in particular I must publically thank Jenny S, Sue Thomas and her team, Sue B, Alan and my family! To everyone else a MASSIVE Yee Ha! thank you, you were all just awesome!
To all participants and leaders I thank you so much, without you all it would not have happened. You all entered into the event with such enthusiasm and fun it was just great to see so many smiling faces all the time.
YEE HA! From the biggest toad in the puddle!
OAA Report – September 2011
Don’t walk behind me, I may not follow,
Don’t walk in front of me, I may not follow,
Walk beside me that we may be as one.
The archery competition was greatly enjoyed by those who took part and congratulations to 1st West Lavington Guides who are the first winners of the trophy. Congratulations also to Megan from Boscombe Down Guides, for getting the highest score of the day.
All the teams had a chance to try out a variety of activities based on foods, this included making their own pizzas and fruit kebabs for their lunch.
The only slight down side, was the fact that teams had booked with Derek and they either cancelled at very short notice or did not send the required number on the day.
The highlight of Summer 2011 for me was WoSoG II, the Wild, Wild West! Thank you so much to everyone who helped with the organisation and running of the event and to all those who participated in such an enthusiastic way when at Foxlease. The event was all and more than I had hoped for. It was just brilliant. The final barn dance, the laughter, friendships, hard work, the smiling faces will stay with me for a long time. I just can not thank you all enough you were all awesome super stars. Look out for the photographs and records on display at Berwick, in the house and Pratten. They will be there from mid October.
Our next event will be the Campfire on 4th November at Berwick. The closing date for numbers is 7th October 2011. I have had a few units apply.
We have had a few leaders who have undertaken a residential qualification over the last few months and we are just waiting for them to send in their final paperwork. If you are one of the, please get your paperwork to your mentor as soon as you can, it would be a shame not to complete which every qualification you are undertaking...after all you have done most of the hard work already.
In November we shall be holding some training sessions.
Saturday 5th November is for those leaders or patrol leaders or SS/YLs wishing to undertake a residential qualification in the near future.
Sunday 6th is for SS/YLs who are interested in attending a Winter Camp. Hopefully we shall have enough numbers to run these events as unfortunately we had to cancel the May event due to lack of interest. Please let Jenny Sturges know by 21st October of your intention to attend.
At the beginning of September I travelled to Wimbleball Lake, Exmoor to help out at the Region’s Wet and Wild weekend. It was a good weekend with Guides and SS/YLs having the opportunity to take part in a variety of water activities. There were also land based activities for everyone to take part in too. If the boating advisers organise an event in the future I would recommend that girls are encouraged to go as it is a great opportunity to try out new activities and to meet girls from all over the South West Region.
Vacancies!
Walking Adviser – we would really appreciate it if someone from outside the team would consider joining us and taking on this role. We know that our members enjoy walking and we really need someone to take this on for us. We have between 3 – 4 meetings a year, usually at Berwick with one of them being a more social event.
So please, if you have an interest in walking and promoting it with our members, consider joining us.
Boating Adviser – Emma’s term of office comes to an end on 31st December 2011, so it would be great if we could find someone to take on this advisory role from her.
Both these advisory roles are also asked to attend the Region meeting which is usually held in November each year, or someone can be nominated to attend in their place.
Should you be interested in either of these advisory roles then please contact me.
Thank you to those of you who support the Outdoor Team and their activities it is really appreciated. Should you have any ideas about activities which we could offer please let your adviser or myself know.
